McGruder Family Resource Center’s space has gone through a lot of change over the years. They’ve added gardens and playgrounds, basketball courts and fitness equipment to their grounds.
But with all these additions, it was important that the outdoor spaces be accessible to all the families they serve—no matter their abilities.
That’s when we reached out to Brasfield & Gorrie, a national construction firm and United Way corporate partner, to see if they could help.
Without hesitation, they said yes.
Brasfield & Gorrie, McGruder and Metro Nashville Public Schools worked together to plan, design and build an ADA-compliant ramp with handrails—creating accessible parking behind the building and connecting the parking lot to an accessible garden, senior fitness equipment, playground, soccer mini pitch and basketball court.
In June, nearly 30 Brasfield & Gorrie employees and interns volunteered their time and labor to make sure North Nashville families had the resources and accessibility they need while visiting McGruder Family Resource Center.
We’re so grateful to Brasfield & Gorrie leadership, staff and interns for their generosity and hard work—along with B&G Equipment & Supply and United Rentals for donating equipment at no cost; Hemma Concrete for donating materials and labor for sidewalks; Ramtool for donating building materials; and Elder Building Supply for offering the lumber at below cost.
