Making an Impact: Davidson County
Davidson County, the heart of Middle Tennessee, is a dynamic region that combines the vibrancy of urban living with the warmth of Southern hospitality. Home to the state’s Capitol and a hub for music, health care and education, Davidson County offers endless opportunities for residents and businesses to thrive. The county’s diverse neighborhoods, cultural landmarks and thriving economy make it a special place to live, work and explore. We are proud to collaborate with local residents and organizations to continue building a prosperous future for Davidson County.
A look at our work.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Each year, United Way volunteers help thousands of low-income and at-risk taxpayers prepare their taxes through the VITA free tax preparation program. In 2023, we offered in-person and virtual VITA tax prep throughout Davidson County and put $226,257 into the county’s VITA funding.
Financial Empowerment Center
The Nashville Financial Empowerment Center offers no-cost one-on-one financial counseling to residents in the Greater Nashville region. In partnership with the Mayor’s Office, the FEC helps people move from a state of instability to a state of empowerment with new savings habits, higher credit scores and lower debt burdens.
Read To Succeed
Read To Succeed is a comprehensive early childhood learning model that builds academic and social-emotional skills for children from birth through age 5. Through Read To Succeed, children learn the skills they need to reach their highest potential.
The Family Collective
Kids who experience homelessness face many obstacles to reaching their potential, like lack of resources, frequent school changes, loss of school records and emotional stress. That’s why The Family Collective is preventing and ending family homelessness by connecting families to sustainable opportunities and disrupting cycles of poverty.
Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee
In partnership with the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation and the Dollywood Foundation, Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee delivers an age-appropriate, high-quality book each month straight to Davidson County children’s mailboxes at no cost to families.
Days of Action
United Way’s Days of Action are community-wide volunteer opportunities. Each year, thousands of volunteers come together to support our work and improve the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors through initiatives such as Stuff the Bus and Give Thanks. In 2023, $1,000 was provided for Stuff the Bus supplies.
211 Helpline
The 211 Helpline is a 24/7, 365-day information and referral help line that provides individuals in need with help in times of crisis and beyond. Serving 42 counties in Middle Tennessee, our 211 Helpline is staffed by trained specialists and supports a database of more than 10,000 health and human service programs.
Funded Partners
Our Community Impact Funding process mobilizes resources to provide results-oriented funding to 105 nonprofit agencies serving Davidson County. Funding recommendations are made by a dedicated group of community volunteers and are approved by our board of trustees. In 2023, we put $5,533,997 back into Davidson County through our Community Impact Funding, along with an additional $3,870,759.90 in Financial Assistance Network funding.
