Making an Impact: Greater Clarksville region
Houston, Montgomery and Stewart Counties
The Greater Clarksville region, encompassing Houston, Montgomery and Stewart counties, is a vibrant and growing area known for its rich history, natural beauty and strong sense of community. This region offers a unique blend of urban amenities and rural charm. The area’s diverse economy, thriving military presence at Fort Campbell and abundant recreational opportunities make it an ideal place to live, work and explore. We are committed to working with local communities, businesses and organizations to continue building a prosperous future for the Greater Clarksville region.
A look at our work.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Each year, United Way volunteers help thousands of low-income and at-risk taxpayers prepare their taxes through the VITA free tax prep program. In 2024, we’re offering in-person VITA tax prep at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Library as well as virtual VITA. Find more information here.
Adopt a Family
Clarksville area families who need assistance at holiday season can apply for adoption and will be given the opportunity to list reasonable gift ideas and needs for each family member. Sponsors choose to adopt a family based on size: Small (1-3 people), Medium (4-6 people), or Large (7+ people). United Way will then match sponsors with a family and will give sponsors the wish list from their adopted families.
Hands On Volunteer Opportunities
Community volunteers can team up with local nonprofits to complete projects that enhance their work and help serve our most vulnerable neighbors. Community Day of Action, coordinated by Hands On, encompasses a wide range of projects and all levels of volunteers. Visit the Hands On Clarkville website to find your opportunity!
Raise Your Hand
Raise Your Hand partners with administrators and teachers to implement tutoring sessions in participating schools. Our volunteer tutors work in the classroom after school helping teachers with first- through eighth-grade students who are struggling with reading and math. Teachers and volunteers partner to listen to and coach each child to success. Participation is completely free for students and includes snacks and transportation home. For the 2024-2025 school year, Raise Your Hand is serving three public schools in Clarksville/Montgomery County.
Days of Action
United Way’s Days of Action are community-wide volunteer opportunities. Each year, thousands of volunteers come together to support our work and improve the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors through initiatives such as Stuff the Bus and Give Thanks. Last year, 950 students received school supplies to start the year off ready to learn! Give Thanks expanded in 2024 to include a local distribution point to make it easier for the community to participate. Last year, 100 food boxes were distributed in the Clarksville Region.
